Food has a way of marking a place in memory better than almost anything else. Over the years, my travels have taken me across cities, coastlines, and countries where the quickest way to understand a place is to sit down and eat what the locals eat. From small neighborhood kitchens and roadside stands to memorable restaurants worth planning a trip around, I’ve made it a point to try whatever is put in front of me.
This section is a record of those meals. Some are refined and set atop white linen table cloths served by some of the highest trained staff, some prepared by a sweaty, Portuguese man on the outskirts of Sintra, some prepared by abuelita in deep Mexico under a simple metal roof with hands and wrists covered in white maza from making tortilla after tortilla by hand, but each one tells a story about where it was found. Here you’ll find notes from the road, reflections on new cuisines, and the restaurants that left an impression long after the last bite. Consider it an open seat at my table for anyone curious about the world's meals, one plate at a time. In addition to this, you'll also find some of my writing about random culinary events such as Action Bronson's Chumbeh dinner series and James Beard dinners that I attend.
Lastly, please note that this list is not exhaustive of every good restaurant I've been to—only the ones that stood out exceptionally in a memorable way, whether the food or good company—Or both.
Enjoy the read.
